Vida Feminina, 2002 – 2005

‘Vida Feminina’ – this series of drawings made between 2002 and 2005, was exhibited in Jersey, Channel Isles, and in Sagres, Portugal. Inspired by a collection of Portuguese women’s magazines and dressmaking, embroidery, and crochet patterns from the 1930s, these works explore the capacity of decoration to be both expansive and repressive, and to veil latent sexuality. They are intended to both comfort and unsettle the viewer as contemplation of domesticity and a ‘woman’s life’.
